2020 became a year where industries, specialties and people were deemed “essential” and “non-essential”. It quickly became clear that essential services and products were being invested in and those deemed non-essential were being cut swiftly or defunded broadly.
Going into Summer 2021 expectations were that the restrictions would be lifted and businesses re-opening. The reality, however, is that a return to normal is still not likely for many more months as a result of stagnating vaccination rates and new variants raging. According to some analysts, the projected economic timeline for recovery is at least five years, with many likening it to be worse than the housing collapse of 2008.
But there will be a recovery. There will also be a new normal…there always is.
